Transportation of Ludhiana City


Ludhiana is connected by Roads, Rails and Air with number of major cities such as Amritsar, Delhi, Jammu, Patiala, Kanpur, Mumbai, Kolkata etc.  There are number of transportation mode are used in Ludhiana city.

Following are some famous mode of Transportation in Ludhiana City: -

  • Rickshaw: - Cycle rickshaws are widely used in Ludhiana City. The Rickshaw is pulled by a person and is relatively cheaper mode of transport. 





  • Auto Rickshaw: - Auto Rickshaw or Three Wheeler (Tempo, auto, tuk-tuk etc) is much popular transport of Ludhiana city. It is a way to travel in the city. Auto Rickshaw is a motorized version of Cycle Rickshaw.






  • Bus Service: - Ludhiana is well connected with all cities of Punjab by Punjab Roadways. There are huge amount of passengers travel on these buses. For travel inside the city, Punjab Government starts number of city buses. The LCBSL (Ludhiana City Bus Service Limited) is a company who operates these buses in the Ludhiana city.



  • Ludhiana Junction: - Mode of Rail transportation is also popular in Ludhiana city. Ludhiana JN. is one of the largest rail junction of Punjab State. Ludhiana City is well connected with all cities of Punjab and also other states by Rail Service. Huge amount of people travel on rail.





A new train also starts from Ludhiana who connects with Chandigarh named “Dorunto Express”.



  • Ludhiana Airport: - Ludhiana is connected with Delhi and Pathankot by Air. Kingfisher and Air India fly daily between Ludhiana Airport to New Delhi Airport. Ludhiana Airport is also known as Sahnewal Airport. The Government is trying to construct it an International Airport.




  • Metro in Ludhiana: - The government has signed a multilateral agreement with Delhi for the construction of Metro in Ludhiana city. There will be two corridors in Ludhiana Metro. They construct two rail lines that cover 27 stations. It is expected to cost Rs. 10,300 crore and begin in 2015.
